Buildings both commercial and residential are prone to fire. Due to electric and gas lines the buildings are at huge risk of catching fire. But these risks can be reduced by taking a few measures that can save lives of many people and their families from losing their loved ones. In the current days, fire awareness has become an alarming issue. This new year have started its journey with fire in Bangladesh. The Chawkbazar fire in the Old Dhaka area was a great massacre and it cost many innocent lives. It also injured many people and has demoralized many families. The fire F.R. Tower at Banani also had many casualties that beyond description and tears. There is some more incidents of fire casualties in many parts of the country consistently. Many commercial buildings of Dhaka city are not fire proof and do not have adequate facility if fire occurs. The infrastructure of the buildings are so poor that great losses are caused due to fire occurrences and the facilities are also not up to the mark like other developed countries of the world.
Many lives are lost because of fire, as the fire brigade also does not have sufficient water supply for defusing the fire. For example, in the recent incident of fire occurrence at the F. R. Tower in Banani, the fire extinguishing hose was leaking. A little street urchin was captured in the camera of the media, trying to stop the water from leaking, as he wrapped the hose with plastic bag and held it hard in his little hands. Sometimes when fire occurs at very high buildings it is heard that the ladder of the fire brigade is not high enough to cover the floors of the buildings.
Some little initiatives can reduce the casualties due to fire in the commercial buildings. In other countries of the world there are fire hydrants on the footpaths, which become essential abruptly when fire occurs. A fire hydrant is simply a pump, which is a connection point of water supply for firefighters to connect their hose. It is a very useful component of fire protection. Setting up fire extinguishers in the commercial buildings and proper training of using the extinguisher should be given to the people who work at the buildings. During fire occurrence it is not safe to use the lift, so the staircase of the commercial building should be made fire proof, so that the people of the building can escape and save themselves from the fire. Keeping the workplace into order or mess free is very important so that the clutter cannot be fuel or the reason of fire occurrence. Making the disposals of the wastes on time is a also precaution that can save a building from catching fire. Oily rags of explosive bottles can be harmful and can be cause of fire occurrences. Commercial wastes are a great source of fire occurrence which needs timed clearance to avoid fire incidents. The machines at the workplaces should be taken proper care so that they do not cause any kind of spark or friction, which could be he a threat or pricey for the lives of people who work in the building. A continuous check should be given to the machine so that they do not become the root of fire occurrence. Commercial buildings are bound to have chemical they have factories and different kinds of offices under one roof. These chemicals should be treated with caution, so that the chance fire occurrences could be avoided and lives of people could be saved.
Taking the precautions for the safety of lives of people can be great life savers. The above discussed precautions are way too aware people of the effect of fire that causes deadly losses to many people, and even the fire occurrence are the make people the subject of many other problems like, being into debt or going into bankruptcy. So I assume that is better to resolve this problem of fire incidents at the beginning, before it becomes impossible to be addressed like Don.
